Souquet and Hohmann ousted in final by Reyes and Bustamante 2009 World Cup of Pool

An eventful match if ever thete was one Reyes and Bustamante got off to an impressive start, claiming the first of three before dividing the next four to give them 5-2 lead. But two costly mistakes both miscues, allowed the Germans to tie at 5.

Souquet and Hohmann managed to combine four racks to give them a slender lead at 6-5.

But then theFilipinos got lucky to take the 12th and tie at 6 all.

But the Germans gained some composureand tooke the lead the lead and looked like they were on their way to cause an upset.

Reyes and Bustamante, winners of the first inaugural staging of the event in 2006, then pulled off another Houdini act.

The match was riddled with a number of illegal breaks as both teams failed to send more than two balls pass the head-string. That slowed the game down and resulted in only few break and run-outs.

Reyes and Bustamante made the most out of it as they utilized their vast experience of playing under precarious condition.

Seeded fifth among the 32 teams from 31 countries, Bustamante and Reyes opened their bid with an 8-3 dismantling of inexperienced Qatari duo of Bashar Hussain and Mohammed Ali Bin Ali. They followed it up with an 8-5 triumph over Italy’s Bruno Muratore and Fabio Petroni.

In the quarterfinals, Reyes and Bustamante absolutely demolished England’s Darren Appleton and Imran Majid, 9-1.

The Germans pair made it to the finals by the following route of results in the earlier rounds by beating Hong Kong (8-0), France (8-4) and Holland (9-7) and the Orcollo-Alcano pair, which won over Thailand (8-4), Russia (8-3) and Poland (9-5).
